Lucy Ethiopian restaurant to open Saturday in Bethesda (Photos)

Lucy Ethiopian Restaurant plans to open Saturday, according to an employee. Located at 4865 Cordell Avenue, it will be the second Ethiopian restaurant to open in as many weeks in a town that previously had none. The owners have an existing location in Silver Spring, and the menu here is expected to be similar, the employee said. Here is a sneak preview of the restaurant interior:

The closing announcement will be coming soon. That's no way in hell an Ethiopian restaurant is going to survive. Isn't there another opening as well?

5:20: The other has already opened on Bethesda Avenue, where Nest Cafe was, very recently.

5:20 AM

MoCo is crawling with Habesha, but ya they probably eat at home.

I can't picture Robert Dyer eating at an Ethiopian restaurant. Taco Bell is as far as he goes, in terms of "culinary diversity".

Last night I wrote a song about tortillas.
Well, actually, it is more of a rap.

That may be the most cursed site in town. Why aren't really good chef/owners coming to Bethesda? It can't be the rent. They are opening at break neck speed all over DC. Bethesda gets the shaft. DLC has got to be a factor.

7:02: I'll say there are chefs in Bethesda who are great but don't have the name recognition yet, but more broadly, yes the government liquor monopoly is hurting us bigtime. Having to pay more for liquor than DC restaurants on a regular basis is a bad situation in a narrow-profit-margin business. Government needs to get the hell out of the liquor business here.

Remember, the guy from Rose's Luxury, one of the hottest places in DC in recent times, is from MoCo. That should tell you plenty.

7:25: Saturday is what the employee said Thursday evening.

That's ok. They'll be announcing their closure soon enough. There's that much demand for Ethiopian in downtown Bethesda? Ah, no there isn't. Another one is already open which will be closed too very soon. The former Nest location if cursed.

Bethesda had a great restaurant and chef right at that location...Grapeseed was wonderful. No one is eating fine food in Bethesda. The high rents and Liquor Control pushes us to other areas. DC is easy to get to with Uber so why put up with Montgomery County bloated prices.

3:07 - I was say youryo correct and I've said similar. I still don't get it. Rent can't be that much higher than the hot spots in DC which leaves the DLC. It sucks.
